Papa: I pity the Germans, Corrie.
Corrie: Pity the Germans? But why?
Papa: They have touched the apple of God’s eye. |

Corrie: We started to save as many as we could. I hadn’t planned it, but God had planned it. |

“Mr. Smit,” a carpenter from the underground, measures Corrie’s bedroom for the hiding place. |

Corrie’s nephew, Kik, performs random surprise drills. Corrie is not always ready. |

Corrie: When he asked me about my spare time I told him about that work that I had with disabled children.
Lieutenant Rahms: What nonsense! Hasn’t it far more value to convert a normal person than an abnormal one?
Corrie: It is possible that in Jesus’ loving eyes one of these dis-abled children may be worth more than a watchmaker. Or—a lieutenant.
|
Corrie: I was four months in solitary confinement. One day I started to sing “what a friend we have in Jesus.” I heard the next verse. It was the woman in the cell next to mine.
